The Institute Presents to Charity Production's Community Breakfast

The Institute for Sustainable Communities (IfSC) is pleased to announce our first community fellow - Charles X White CEO of Charity Productions. Charles has been working on public safety and health issues for over 20 years in various capacities as a consultant or service provider, and has been an invaluable partner to the Institute. Through his expertise of governance structure in Houston, hazard and healthcare issues, and deep connection to community members the Institute has been able to perform cutting-edge research, high-impact service learning for TAMU students, and engagement efforts within south Houston neighborhoods.

The community fellows program of the Institute recognizes individuals of distinction who have partnered with faculty and staff at the Institute to make notable and valuable contributions to scientific research, community resilience and engagement efforts, as well as teaching excellence.

The fellowship certificate was presented to Charles during Charity Productions “Community Partnership Breakfast” on October 5^th. This event hosted nearly 400 residents, local news stations, and elected officials. These breakfasts serve as a non-partisan event, a repository of collective civic history, social interaction, cultural enrichment, business exchange, political platforms, and a springboard of diverse views. The breakfast serves as an opportunity to come together to solve community needs.

Director Phillip Berke spoke on the unique capabilities of Charles X White and the knowledge and capabilities he brings to the table before presenting the certificate. Our Discovery Lead, Jennifer Horney, presented to the audience an overview of the epidemiologic and environmental findings from several recent and ongoing projects within Houston as well as future planned endeavors.



Charles X White also presented a plaque to Texas A&M University Chancellor John Sharp for his, and the universities, response to hurricane Harvey in marginalized communities devastated by flooding. Philip Berke accepted this plaque on his behalf.
